Yeah this is an absolutely God damn awful decision.

What about leaving it to the playergroups to decide if they'll allow these cards or not instead of setting a stage of creating problems and very Un-fun situations where people will argue over this, scoop and walk away from the table or people getting told they can take their mtgcommander.net decision along with their silver bordered cards and go take a hike. Because that is exactly what is going to happen now.

Stuff like this will cause this site to lose legitimacy as official commander rules provider.

Well this site is run by the Rules Committee, so if the site loses credibility, it's because they do.

I think this change is completely in the spirit of Commander. It's supposed to be a fun, CASUAL, format. It's the casual part people forget, and try to make it a super competitive format. Those people in my opinion don't understand the format.

I would like to see the next ban announcement basically be "we tried the silver borders and we like them but here are the problem cards so we are banning these specific ones, oh and here are some commander specific rules concerning half numbers, oh and Spike is UB because there is a blue mana symbol on her shirt."

You bringing it up suggests you even had a doubt. Mana symbols on the card: UB. We're good.

Nope, casting cost and rules text only. She's mono black for the same reason Trinisphere is colorless.

It's almost like you're not even trying, Cryogen.

@zimagic, @cryogen -- Personally I'll be delighted to see that thing being something groups and tables argue about. ;) I'll be satisfied when it's decided Spike is mono black, and amused when it's decided she's blue-black.

Hey, that was my first thought as well, but if the RC is going to be a killjoy about Rule 13, then they can do it again with color identity. :P

You fools! By using the word 'banned' in the announcement, you've only added to the number of cards Spike, Tournament Grinder can find...

No, as we've mentioned elsewhere, Spike doesn't work in the format.

But this is nevertheless a constructed format! And you've banned cards in it!

Not that draft Spike players will mind! :D

Why not just ban her then to save people the inevitable argument about whether she can find cards outside the game?

Serious question though, because it wasn't clear (to me at least) in the announcement: what is the plan as of now on January 15th? Go back to normal with silver bordered cards not legal, or is this a trial unban to see how it goes thing?

You can't win, cryogen. If you ban her now, she'll become more powerful than you can possibly imagine.

Fuck, you're right. Then she'll just be able to fetch herself!
