 Post subject: Peak Hour (Marath +1/+1 counter schemes)

My major original idea (from around the time KTK released, meaning it predates the Atraxa precon) was a Jenara chart using +1/+1 counters to conduct trample, first strike and so on to all my creatures. Recently, I've come up with a Shu Yun chart (couldn't find any better WRU commanders for the purpose...) that manipulates combat in the form of who's blocking whom.

So of course I'd come up with a deck that combines the two as best as I could manage. (It may help that blue's combat manipulation choices feel a bit sere.) Expect changes to this when Ravnica Allegiance spoilers get into full swing, as Gruul rioters and mono-green adapters and adapt-conductors show themselves. (And hopefully mono-green ways to spend counters; I don't think Ion Storm and Ooze Flux are enough...)

One thing I am worried about is whether I need more enchantment/artifact destruction in here. Just a matter of where to fit it, at least...I'm not sure Allay and Shattering Spree's buyback and Polis Crusher's monstrosity are sufficient for the purpose.

I'll have to look into this. I have a spreadsheet full of Marath goodness somewhere. Is there a particular reason you aren't running Hardened Scales? One thing I figured is that this deck lends itself for Replenish.

Just a matter of overlooking it, is all. I didn't start writing out the chart until about three days ago, admittedly. As for Replenish, it looks helpful, but the $40 price tag on it gives me pause.

Before suggesting a diarrhea of cards I tried to figure out what the mana curve is you're aiming at. It seems you're at a low curve. My theory was that Marath wants to be played often, so you get a larger Marath to do... stuff with. So I just ran all the ramp.

Besides that, some actual cards that I think you'll want anyway (though I have no clue about the price, sorry about Replenish)

I would say no. First off, Reckoner can burninate any target when damaged, whereas Truefire is players only. Also, the Reckoner can gain first strike, enabling you to kill things you would otherwise trade with without having to do so. Lastly, mentor isn't a very strong ability, and isn't more valuable than the flexibility afforded you by the Reckoner.

If you're making things huge, Chandra's Ignition might be really good for you. Also Ordeal of Nylea could be useful, giving counters and ramp.

War Elemental is really cute with Ion Storm, and is on-theme. Can also get scary huge.

Also Vigor. This list definitely needs more Vigor.
