 Post subject: 1v1 Competitive Merieke Ri Berit & Doran

*I'm not sure if all decklists are supposed to go in the Decklists forum or if 1v1 decklists should stay here*

I've been playing EDH for sometime now and I decided a while back to make some decks specifically for 1v1 as that's what happens most often in my Minneapolis metagame. So I decided what would be the most fun for everyone would be to build Draw Go! No, actually the inspiration for what ended up turning into this deck was Eternal Dominion. As so often happens with casual cards like that they slowly but surely withered into Mana Drains FoWs etc.



I haven't seen a lot of 1v1 decklists on here that are trying to be really competitive so I thought I'd share mine. If anyone has any suggestions for improvements or questions and comments fire away.

Merieke Ri Berit is such a sick general. Some decks just can't deal with a recurring threat like that, and this deck can play her many times. I've paid as much as 13 for her. I think she's at least close to on par with the better mono U generals, the big difference of course being that I get to play white and black.

We've recently banned Sol Ring and Mana Crypt so I'm not playing those. I've also just kind of decided not to play Forbid as this deck is already fairly overpowered in the 1v1 matches that I play, I want people to think they still have a shot. :twisted:

Necravolver is a bit of a pet card of mine and also a remnant from when this was more lifegain oriented. Krosan Grip is in there so I can hit Deed, Disk or O-stones that aren't blown right away.

EDIT One thing I should add is that I'm consciously not putting in Geddon effects. Turn 2 Doran, Turn 3 Geddon just wouldn't be fun for anyone and perhaps more importantly, I would find myself with no one to play against. Also,

-1 Reanimate
+1 Mortify

At one point I was finding that I had too much spot removal and took some out, I think I took too much out so Mortify is hired. Reanimate is not something you want to see in your opener very often as I almost always lead with Doran and there's no point wasting a card to get him back when I can just cast him again.

I'm looking at building merieke, but differently.

because merieke doesn't untap, I am adding a lot of the twiddle effects, to help machine gun the opponent, and umbral mantel, because that is a sick card.

I will try to post a deck when I have it finished.

I thought you couldnt use fetch lands with different colors than the ones you are running, also gigadrowse is awesome for untap =)

of course you can, cause they're not colours, but basic landtypes.

The colour restriction is; you can't play cards with mana symbols that aren't in your general's casting cost.

Merieke is my most powerful general. I would change mishras factory with volrath stronghold so merieke and other guys van be recurred,and vedalken shackles with helm of possession-you will found yorself in situations where you don't have enough islands,and trick with helm is obvious-take wit merieke what you don't want,sac it for helm activation and grab what you want,sometimes it can change target from merieke. Minamo isn't enough for untapping merieke,so adding thousand-year elixir and magewright's stone would help a lot. In my deck I have a strong wizard theme so with riptide laboratory I have magus of the disk,mangara of corrondor,memnarch,venser and voidmage husher. I don't suggest wizards but I like them around. As for cards I did suggest,I can't link them with my cellphone so you have to do the search. Glad if I helped,sorry if not!

I play a Rubinia Soulsinger deck, and have similar needs to untap her, although she can untap each turn.
I use Pemmin's Aura, which can untap her, give her shroud, and pump her.
Merieke Ri Berit could definitely take advantage of that first ability, many times.

Well,6 mana-if I remember well- is a litle bit too much for a card...if I remember wrong cost with buyback,nevermind it is still too much. Mystic speculation on the other hand can't draw cards but it is equal as Top for me. Can't draw cards but for 6 I can play it twice and fix my first three cards twice with scry...some people like it,some people don't...but,Whispers don't have nothing in common with the topic,so who cares,hahaha!

I also have a twiddle-style Merieke deck, and I find that Intruder Alarm is most helpful once you have the board locked down. Any time your opponent puts a creature into play, gain control of it in response to the IA trigger, and destroy it when it resolves!
