I'm curious why some card tags show very large images of cards? It's kind of annoying because the large image files don't fit on my screen and I can't read the whole card.

Large - Amass the Components

Normal - Oblation

I think I have mostly seen it with cards printed most recently in Iconic Masters, so perhaps the images for that set were sized incorrectly.

I remember this being a problem for quite some time. I first saw it when replying to a Bull thread and the tag for Channel was enormous.

That is the size of the image, not any issue with the forum. The images are pulled from deckbox and their IMA images are just huge. The hyperlink function to make the cards popup probably could be changed to resize the images but it's probably just IMA and not worth the effort.

Well it is kind of an issue with the forums: a specific size can & should be set for the hover card images in the forum software so that unusual image sizes don't do weird things... like this.

Maybe it shows how green I am to this forum, but I didn't know that it was ever any other way (the deckbox.org platform just seems janky- since I'm used to forums running on Gatherer or the now defunct Magiccards.info- and those were already pretty janky.) Thought this was just something related to the forum's age that made it mobile unfriendly if your thumb hovers over card names.
