So what does everyone think of this? I have to say the artwork really is done well and the cards are great to look at.

It's actually better than I thought it would be.
I like it.

It looks like it will be worth the MSRP, especially if you're just wanting to pick up the cards.

And the random additional card that is foil is a nice little bonus. Though with my luck I'd get a foil Negate.

Threads of Disloyalty over Control Magic or Mind Control seems like such a weird choice to me since all the other spells are such classic cards.

That thing has needed a reprint foreeeeeeeever though. And it sees play in playgroups with tight builds. I might pick this up though, not sure.

We did (a lot did) a version of this for each other. Example:
Signature Spellbook - Crazy Pierre

Balance
Lantern of Insight
Codex Shredder
Ensnaring Bridge
Academy Ruins
Immortal Sun
Path to Exile
Swords to Plowshares

These are the cards I enjoy above all, if you have them for trade please give me a call!
(Not the best of rhymes, but hey!)

Jasmine Boreal - Flower power! Nature/Justice/Retribution themed casual fun.
Yidris, Maelstrom Wielder - Chaos, horsemanship and storm!
Nissa, Vastwood Seer - Lifeblood Hydra is good, who knew?
Pre-Modern:
A Denying Wind.
Duel Commander:
Nissa, Vastwoord Seer - Ramp ramp ramp into Ugin+Painter's Servant.
Kari Zev, Skyship Raider - Unbridled Aggro

Find me Saturdays at the Wizard's Tower - Ottawa and occasional Mondays at Westboro Legion for Duel Commander.

I like that idea.

Putting together a signature spell book for each other!

I'm pretty sure mine would have Nim Deathmantle in it.

That is pretty awesome. Reminds me of exchanging Despair.com 4x6 framed Demotivator prints as Secret Santa gifts (pick the print that fits your person best - all tongue-in-cheek of course). If I had to make my own list (since MTGO doesn't count as a "playgroup"), it would be something like:

Thousand-Year Elixir
Phyrexian Splicer
Nature's Blessing
Harsh Mercy
Teferi's Veil
Patriarch's Bidding
Mana Cache
Gravity Well
Blood Frenzy
Baton of Morale

There are only eight spell slots, people. No cheating

That being said, because this is indeed a fun game...

Angel of the Dire Hour
Distended Mindbender
Magmatic Force
Combustible Gearhulk
Comeuppance
Illusionist's Gambit
Arachnogenesis
Synthetic Destiny

Mine is a little different. Not my Spellbook, but the cards that defined multiplayer magic for me in the 60 card days. Nothing I played, everything I had to struggle to deckbuild around and (usually fail to) beat.

Phyrexian Tyranny
Overburden
Limited Resources
Hypnotic Specter
Palinchron
Treachery
Equilibrium
Somnophore

Lots of dirty blue mages back in those days.

If I was going by actual numbers, it would probably be:
Desert of the True
Desert of the Mindful
Desert of the Glorified
Desert of the Fervent
Desert of the Indomitable
Scavenger Grounds
Solemn Simulacrum
Burnished Hart

But I think its more fun to make one that is based on the cards which the stories about my games tend to mention, and that list would probably be something like:
Dead-Iron Sledge
Zombie Infestation
Ipnu Rivulet
Diligent Farmhand
Stolen Grain
Tainted Sigil
Oath of Chandra
Odric, Lunarch Marshal

I thought it was 10, sorry. Is that 8 plus a foil, or 7 plus a foil, or is the foil only something already in the 8?

8 plus a foil version of one of the eight.

"Signature Spellbook: Jace is a collection of eight cards plus one random premium foil version of one of those eight cards for the serious blue mage." (emphasis mine).
