I think its the triple blue AND not being an instant that make it sorta "meh." The one extra mana isn't insignificant either.

I was a little upset that this didn't fit into the Tidings/Opportunity scheme.

I really like that we have Divination at 3 mana sorcery drawing 2 cards.
Then Inspiration and friends at 4 mana instant drawing 2 cards.
Then Concentrate as a 4 mana sorcery drawing 3 cards.
And Jace's Ingenuity as a 5 mana instant drawing 3 cards(though I wish that had been a fact or fiction for 5)
And then Tidings as a 5 mana sorcery drawing 4 cards.
Followed by Opportunity as a 6 mana instance drawing 4 cards.

I kinda wish this had been a 6 mana sorcery to draw 5

I hate when cards ruin other cards.

I hope that's not it, and if it is then I'd rather they add the text "Exile <cardname>" at the end of the draw spell before making it a sorcery.

(good stuff about draw spells)

Agreed. And I think the history of these cards shows that they are fairly safe from a Standard perspective.

Though a 6 mana draw 5 sorcery would make the aforementioned Flow of Ideas look firmly mediocre.

Amusingly, textless Tidings has caused me confusion more than once, even though these draw spells are really straightforward and should be easy to remember.

There's an flip card been spoiled that has me quite excited: A cradle that you have to work to have in play is still a cradle.

Growing Rites of Itlimoc 2G

Legendary Enchantment

When Growing Rites of Itlimoc enters the battlefield, look at the top four cards of your library. You may reveal a creature card from among them and put it into your hand. Put the rest on the bottom of your library in any order.

At the beginning of your end step, if you control four or more creatures, transform Growing Rites of Itlimoc.

Itlimoc, Cradle of the sun

Well, that's my "go out and buy a playset at release" for this set.

Actually I like almost all of the flip into a land cards. The only one that's a little disappointing so far is black one that only triggers on less than 5 life and asks you to sacrifice creatures to gain life which you're less likely to want to do when you're at 5 life or under. Other than that they are all interesting cards with interesting pay-off.

I'm digging them all, even if I don't think I'll play them all.

Yeah, the black one sucks a bit for EDH, but I like it in limited a lot. I'll probably want 1 just to have it in my binder.

Probably the best card design in the set. Flavourful, fun combo piece and tricky to play around all wrapped up by a fantastic, evocative art piece. This little guy makes me want to play Pauper Commander and is definitely going to be a fun time in limited or cubes.

Commander isn't really the place for small value plays where this guy shines and the fact that it's a damage clause and not a leaves the battlefield or dies clause means it can't be used with sac outlets or self inflicted -1/-1 counters. However, it'll definitely have a place in my Marath, Will of the Wild deck a small investment to set up a 3/3 for 1 mana and 1 counter every turn is pretty awesome.

Oh crap... I'm loving the Ranging Raptors.

I can't wait to pair it with something like Pestilence or Pyrohemia.

Been busy the last few weeks, so I didn't get a chance to check for spoilers until this weekend. What a disappointment... Sure, there's plenty of decent cards (although mechanics seem somewhat forced), but flavor of this set is a disaster. I was looking forward to a Mayan-Aztec kinda plane, and then they got us pirates and dinosaurs. Really? It's just ridiculous...

And apparantly Jace is a stranded hobo-pirate now? And there are (white) vampires in this sunny tropical island setting? Oh, and Vraska is a pirate, sure.

Em, so they've printed this:

A 2 cc / 2 equip cost equipment that gives you two 0/2 defending tokens and boosts +2/+1. That's actually not a bad deal as non-busted 2 cost equipment go. Gums up the ground, small boost.

Except, when you hit with this it becomes:

Image

A. Black. Lotus. Land. You. Don't. Sacrifice.

Wow!
