Wow...after all that time I spent breaking my habit of saying that things were being "cast"...

I'm wondering what the new dual lands will turn out to be. "Powerful" would indicate (to me, anyway) that they don't come into play tapped, or have a way to not come into play tapped - maybe something in a similar vein to Rupture Spire, except less sucky. CiPT has traditionally been the strongest way to nerf a land's power.

Alternately, they could do something like the Shadowmoor filter lands, except with basic land types and colorless activations.

Either way, I'm hoping they have basic land types and/or that they do all ten color combinations. They might be remotely Legacy playable that way, and I need more enemy color lands for EDH.

Also, yawg, where my Goyfs at?

Totally agree, Legacy could use some more sweet duals.

And what!? Those aren't there yet? PMing you here (source inbox nearly full)

Think they could reprint the original duals?

They won't reprint the original duals - Wish they could tho

Edit: I also wish for more opposite colored duals. Not enough choices for EDH.

Blind speculation:
Blood Island
Land - Island Mountain
(T: Add U or R to your mana pool.)
Whenever Blood Island is tapped for mana, remove the top three (four? five?) cards of your library from the game.

The closest we'll probably get to the original duals without having Ravnica-style pain would be something like:

Islandy-Mountain
Land - Island Mountain
~ comes into play tapped.

...and if these were uncommon, I'd have a celebration...in my pants.

Pretty much exactly my first comment on reading it...

I assume the difference was because 5th edition rules had the "successfully cast" concept they needed to get away from, but in reality, that's probably long enough ago that "cast" can be a term again.

I'm somewhat floored by this. No more oddball summer sets, they will always be core sets now.

New cards in the core set is pretty cool.

Serra Angel at uncommon will make Limited interesting.

I think the name 'Magic 2010' is painfully bad.

We don't know that 50% of all future core sets are going to be newly designed cards. It only states that with Magic2010 there will be 50% newly designed cards.

I can say that from what we've seen it looks excellent. I absolutely love the artwork for Silence and Black Knight. I've always had a secret fantasy that just once Wizards would print all new art in a core set. At this point I have mixed feelings though. I never thought they'd take Painlands out of Core Set product. Not having them already makes me wistful.

So I think the real reason they're doing this is because Core Set is only bought for the first 3-6 months that it comes out...then it sits on shelves until the next Core Set comes out. Now they can negate some of that by releasing it every year and it allows Standard to have more variation.

The next thing I think they need to do is release an Extended Core Set. Putting back some of the "staples" into extended. Counterspell fits very nicely in Extended but is probably too powerful to see print in Standard.

I'm pretty sure they did that for Seventh Edition, and I'm pretty sure that it was all godawful, with few exceptions.

The logistics with this would be terrible, and needlessly confuse a lot of people. The two most popular formats by far are Standard and Limited, and making a good "Extended staples" Core Set work in the latter would be tricky, to say the least. It also wouldn't sell as well because people would ignore it outside of the couple of months Extended is in season.

I never much liked the painlands anyway, but I am bummed they're not printing the Ravnica block dual lands in the Core. After all that trading to get complete playsets of all of them, too...

@Frosnuts: I'm pretty sure that Time Spiral block is one big exception. I'm also sure that functional reprints don't count for that policy, just strict reprints (i.e., Ur-Golem's Eye as a functional reprint of Sisay's Ring, which had a strict reprint in Seventh Edition, IIRC).
