Sat down with a local group of Commander players the other day and saw some not so interesting stuff. Is it just me or is Decree of Annihilation too broken? Most of the time when the card goes off no one is sitting on a counter or removal spell. The guy who played it was using Jhoira the Ghitu's suspend ability to trigger this spell along with Eldrazi's with Annihilators. The point is the spell removes everything except planeswalkers and libraries from the game. Why is this card not banned? A little insight please would be appreciated. Thank you.

Jhoria with Decree and fatties?
What a novel idea!

It's a finisher It resolves and the game is over.

That's not ban-worthy, that's the spirit of EDH. Three-card combo involving the combat phase? Awesome.

Your opponent used ten mana on a spell that radically altered the board state, and since none of you had an answer, he went on to win the game?

Um did you read my post? Re-read it. He used Jhoira the Ghitu's suspend ability to drop Decree of Annihilation in 7 turns. http://store.tcgplayer.com/product.aspx?id=14913

I believe that was understood.

However, he did not even using Jhoira's Timebug or the like? So you saw his combo coming 4 turns away? Was no one running a way to counter a spell? It seems to me the real problem was he must have been the only one playing blue at the table.

Just based on what you wrote the problem was more do to poor planning on your groups part than the power of the card in question.

Sorry, I misread your post, thinking that only the Eldrazi had been suspended. Still, the "suspend a sweeper, then suspend a fatty" schtick isn't exactly new. I understand that losing a game to some stupid combo is annoying, but I think you and your playgroup should put a little more effort into stopping Jhoira of the Ghitu's tricks before you call for cards to be banned.

This is why you counter/kill Jhoira on sight. Problem solved.

Also, everyone at the table had four turns to A) Kill him or B) Dig for a counter. The whole table couldn't kill him on turns 3-7?

This. Jhoira is one of my least favorite generals because every time I see her as a general, this is the game plan (possibly with Obliterate instead, but it's pretty much the same deal). The only thing that's more annoying is when they cast it just to cast it (no followup). Someone did this to me once, and I killed hiim with relentless Goblin Assault tokens, over a period of several turns.

Decree is not yout problem. there are 4 other cards that do more or less the same thing in red.

The only sweeper that is banned is blue and it's not banned for the sweeper portion of the spell.

Actually there are two that are banned and they're both blue (you could also count Balance which is white). I believe you were thinking of Sway of the Stars, but you also could have been referring to Upheaval.

Was thinking about upheaval - I've never seen sway used ever, to the point i forget it's on the banned list - upheaval gets included in lists on accident to the point I do remember it being banned.
