I managed to pick up a Momir Vig the other day, and I wanted to build a deck around it. However, I’m really torn on how to do so: the colors are really good for aggro-control, and blue and green both have lots of good spells, but Vig himself really wants the deck to be full of dorks. So, to those of you who have experimented or played with the Vigmeister before:

1) How many guys? The list I provisionally made up has sixy-two guys, zero other spells, and thirty-eight lands. Is that too many?

2) What degenerate creature combos exist in blue-green that I can tutor with Vig? The only one I can think of off the top of my head is the Vesuvan Shapeshifter – Brine Elemental combo, which isn’t exactly degenerate…

3) What should the ratio of little utility guys to big, dumb fatties be? The tutor engine Vig provides really makes me want to err on the side of the former, but lots of little utility guys without beef does not a winning strategy make.

So far both my Oona and Doran decks mop the floor with this thing: Oona can just out-control it, and it has a hard time saying no to turn two or three 5/5 guys.

General: Momir Vig, Simic Visionary

The deck has tribal Wizard and tribal Faerie subthemes running through it. The Wizard thing was present to a lesser extent in the original draft list because I was looking for ways to counter stuff, and most of the guys that do that are Wizards. During my attempts to support the Wizard subtheme, I started adding more Faeries because most of them are also Wizards. This, in turn, made me want to support that subtheme, so non-Wizard Faeries ended up making their way into the deck…before I knew it, I had some sort of multi-tribal monstrosity on my hands that just didn’t feel right. After all, I’m using a one-guy engine as a general, the deck should be ridiculous!

What am I missing here?

You absolutely do not need a million dorks. My Vig list only runs about 20 creatures, and it's a great deck if I do say so m'self. I think that you'll find yourself learning the deck rather quickly, and eventually tutoring for pretty much the same set of creatures in most of your games. I filled the rest of the deck with control cards and card advantage.

Here's my list if you're interested.

I would suggest running Top and Scroll Rack to get the creatures you need when you want them.

Consider running primitive etchings with that high a creature count.

1] Horde of Notions (Blink)
2] Teneb, The Harvester (Rock)
3] Isperia the Inscrutable (U/W Control)
4] Mayael the Anima (Fatties FTW!)
5] Omnath, Locus of Mana (Big Green Men)
6] Oros, The Avenger (Rock Burn)
7] Savra, Queen of the Golgari (Token Snack)
8] Rafiq of the Many (One Man, Alone)
9] Reaper King (Taste the EPIC!)
10] Uril, the Miststalker (Dark Rafiq)

I THINK in metaphors

My Momir Vig deck runs a bounce sub-theme, and can tutor for answers to just about anything. The "lock" I use is Seedborn Muse + Teferi, and I have about 45-50 creatures in the deck.

I also run both Crystal Shard and Erratic Portal (the original!) to bounce my own guys. Another sub-theme is comes-into-play abilities, with things like Farhaven Elf, Man-o-war, and Wall of Blossoms.

Teneb, the Harvester
Fifty-dollar Sharuum
Geth, Lord of the Vault
Akroma, Angel of Wrath
