Food for thought?
Specially with the new multicolor ones in Shards coming, might be something to consider.

There aren't enough options.
We need one for "No, I think it's a bad idea"

Agree.

That said it would be fun some time to have people build decks like this with the Lorwyn ones and have a five player star game with mono colored decks.

But in general EDH yeah bad idea.

Planeswalkers were discussed (including the possibility of future multicolour PWs, hybrid PWs, zero-CMC PWs, flip-PWs, etc) when they were released... you can find that thread elsewhere. In short, the format is more interesting when they're allowed as an orthogonal direction, separate from the general.

If you REALLY want planeswalkers to factor more heavily into your games, consider a variant format which uses them in some new and novel way. One possibility which has been discussed is that planeswalkers can't be included in a deck, but one copy of each planeswalker starts the game in the RFG zone and anyone can play them from there any time they could play a sorcery. They go back to the RFG zone as with Generals... making PWs a "shared ally pool" on which everyone can draw. It plays quite differently than regular EDH, but is a fun twist.

That actually sounds pretty sweet, might just have to try that.
