The RC has discussed it and for the time being thinks that multiple Rats is OK. We reserve the right to change our minds down the road.

I've got a friend that plays a rats / thrumming stone deck and meh ? it's ok for duals , in mp it gets shut down to easily. the density of rats required to get the thrum to fired means that all other answers are gone .. meh ..

One of our local guys has threatened to build it for the league. We'll see.

Not something I'd recommend for someone's first or only deck, but a good challenge project to try and build and fun to play/face occasionally. As Sheldon said, if it becomes a problem just like anything else it might get revisited... but none of us has seen anything yet to cause concern... and it really is neat to see sometimes. Definitely within the spirit of the card... Enjoy. :)

Lobotomy as a "sideboard" card against the Relentless Rats deck would be kind of mean. Too bad it's just an overcosted Castigate against anyone else.

in my local shop there's a guy thats about to build the rats edh deck, i'll post the outcome.

obviously marrow gnawer is his general, and he's going to run about 50 rats, thrumming stone, tutors, etc. (i'm hoping he picks up a patriarchs bidding...)

that doesnt seem terrible, i'll just have to sneak the maelstrom pulse in...

We have a guy who plays mono-black rats with 30ish of these and it's always a sight to see him just swing for the win. The deck is good, but far from unbeatable or even unfun. Even playing against it, there are so many ways to use the rats, that everyone enjoys them when they hit the table.

My general was originally Marrow-Gnawer, but I changed it recently to Maralen of the Mornsong since she not only tutors, but can also be the repeated lightning bolt that kills my opponent.

See, I think Maralen is a really bad idea because anyone playing white will immediately pull Aven Mindcensor, and then instead of tutoring you're essentially doing Top-then-shuffle every turn. May not be a problem if you usually want a Rat (you're about a 3:1 favorite to find one early on, though that drops as you thin the deck), but if you need any of the actual singletons you're probably hosed.

Dont get me wrong, I know in EDH its practicaly useless unless somebody is using a RR deck. But can still be used for good GY hate as it removes all non-land cards so does still have its uses. I would use Haunting Echoes in an EDH deck for that reason if i were to run a discard deck, or 1 that focused alot on the GY (which i am working on at the moment and forcing my opponent to fill his yard) ok i know i dont benefit from the library search ability of H.E. but still can be useful.

or you could use one of at least 4 or cards which do the job (emptying a graveyard) more efficient, cost effective and faster.
