Thirst for Knowledge (FNM Foil)

Removal/ Bounce: 7
Dispeller's Capsule (Foil)
Executioner's Capsule (Foil)
Capsize
Voyager Staff
Nevinyrral's Disk (FTV: Relics Foil)
Oblivion Stone
Aether Spellbomb

Mana Artifacts: 7
Mox Opal
Sol Ring
Mana Crypt
Mana Vault (Black Border Japanese!!!)
Lion's Eye Diamond
Darksteel Ingot
Gilded Lotus

Utility: 12
Forcefield
Crucible of Worlds
Salvaging Station
Nihil Spellbomb
Voltaic Key
Recall
Jester's Cap
Sculpting Steel
Tawnos's Coffin
Rings of Brighthearth
Mindslaver
Darksteel Forge
Open the Vaults

Combo: 3
Thopter Foundry (Foil)
Sword of the Meek (Foil)
Time Sieve (Foil)

Lands: 35 (should be 1-2 more, I know. Looking to fit them in)
Island
Plains
Swamp
Celestial Colonnade
Flooded Strand
Polluted Delta
Marsh Flats
Hallowed Fountain
Watery Grave
Godless Shrine
Underground Sea
Scrubland
Tundra
Adarkar Wastes
Underground River
Caves of Koilis
Fetid Heath
Mystic Gate
Sunken Ruins
Seat of the Synod
Ancient Den
Vault of Whispers
Ancient Tomb
City of Traitors (Sub optimal, but I don't have a workshop)
Strip Mine
Minimo, School at waters edge
Tolaria West
Academy Ruins
Grand Coliseum
Reflecting Pool
City of Brass
Rupture Spire
High Market
Arcane Sanctum
Dromar's Cavern

This is the list I am playing at the moment. Big power plays are, in no particular order:

Darksteel Forge+ Nevinyrral's Disk: Yes its mean. Yes, it can come down turn 3-4 (though that RARELY happens).
Mindslaver+ Academy Ruins (Optionally + Rings of Brighthearth): I think I have done this exactly twice. Usually I have other, better things to do, but heh, its here. As often as Not I slaver someone a single time just to make them attack at an inopportune time (or not attack as the case may be), or cast THEIR Wrath, Austere Command, etc...
Disciple of the Vault + Sculpting Steel: instant Win. I rarely do it, but both cards are really good on their own. Disciple is especially good with:
Thopter Foundry + Sword of the Meek + Time Sieve: Foundry is Shockingly good on its own, especially as a sack outlet to stop my forge (etc.) from being Exiled if I don't have a counter. Sieve is also Shockingly good on its own in the deck. It has been used to give me the extra turn I need after drawing everything I need off of:
Etherium Sculptor + Future Sight + Sensei's Divining Top
: Draw cards until it stops being fun(ny). Usually I can use this to either draw into a game winning combo, or a sweep effect.
Thopter Assembly + Time Sieve= 2 card infinite turn combo.
Open the Vaults. I have reversed my long held position on the card: it is absolutely retarded.

SO what do you all think? Suggestions and questions are certainly welcome.

Edited and updated Oct. 5th 2011:
Cuts:
Obelisk of Esper: Came out for Lion's Eye Diamond with the unbanning.
Scourglass: Turned into Aether Spellbomb.
Liliana Vess: Turned into Tezzeret, Agent of Bolas
Courier's Capsule: Became Memory Jar which is just nutty.
Master of Etherium: Became Forcefield. I decided that since the deck is really aiming mostly toward a combo win and away from beats Forcefield was a better game plan and a more powerful 3 drop artifact, especially against Aggro strategies.
Ethersworn Adjudicator: Cut for Thopter Assembly.

Edited and Updated December 6th 2011:

CUt: Kederekt Leviathan For Open the Vaults

In order to make your lands true EDH again you can always use snow covered lands. Maybe like this

-island
-city of brass
-city of traitors
+snow-covered island / plains / swamp

I like to play a high market and a Miren as a sac outlet just in case you don't want to get have a creature sworded or something along those lines. Along the same lines I play a phyrexian tower. I would pull the painlands for those:
-adarkar wastes
-Underground river
-caves of koilos
+miren
+high market
+phyrexian tower

Apart from that, can you tell me how your experience is with etherium sculptor? Have you considered cloud key that has a similar effect?

I just realized that I must have posted an out dated land list. I am no longer running exotic orchard, I am running High market as a sac outlet.

Etherium Sculptor is AMAZING. The obvious combo, or course, is with Future Sight and Top, but it is great with MAster Transmuter and just about everything else. I haven't really considered Cloud Key to be honest and I don't really know why, other than that I have Etherium Sculptor.

I didn't really think about Future sight. Thx for the idea! I'm gonna see if I can squeeze it in, with cloud keyand etherium sculptor. I am currently playing rhystic study which works fairly well.

Maybe I'll take out time sieve / thopter foundry / sword of the meek and replace it with those three.

Back to the drawing board.....

Yeah Sensei's divining top, Future sight/Magus of the Future + Etherium Sculptor/ Cloud Key = draw your deck until it stops being fun.

Rhystic study is really good in EDH, and I was playing it at one time, but it eventually got the cut.

Sieve/ Sword/ Foundry seems really good though. i just want to run the combo for awhile to drive the point home to Timestretch boy that 3 card infinite turn combos are unfun for everyone else. That combo is amazingly resilient though, especially in Sharuum.

Alright,

that's the card for card comparison. The display is a little bad I wanted to have spaces between my cards and your cards but I don't know how to do that. So I just underlined your cards.

It seems to me that we agree basically on everything except the counters instead of which I basically play acceleration. My thinking is that people will have a way of recurring the spells faster than recurring the counterspells. That is why I did add scourglass and all is dust. Soulscour is kind of vanilla but then it is really sweet if you are able to resolve this. But I'm still debating of pulling this for something else. maybe for protomatter powder. Or mystical tutor or something. After scars comes out I can imagine there's gonna be some sweet artifacts we will have to fit in.

The addition of sieve / foundry / sword I did because you talked about it. I really like it a lot. As you can see I also switchedrhystic study for future sight to take advantage of top.

I did play a mistmeadow witch but I cut it for sphinx summoner. It gives me one more tutor for arcbound crusher and master transmuter. I might switch him to platinum angel.

please let me know what you think.

Thanks

I like Buried Alive as well as Entomb/Intution to fill up the graveyard for Sharuum to abuse, similarly Compulsion as it can get out of hand.

No Glassdust Hulk/Sculpting Steel combo? Seems like a good include, you only need to add the Hulk. I see you have the other combos in there.

I have been playing Sharuum for a while off and on and I like Arcum and Hanna in there for obvious reasons as well. I just recently added Open the Vaults and that card is insane, so you might want to consider it.

Also Crystal Shard/Erratic Portal allow for massive Sharuum abuse and are artifacts and reusable, that's super good in this deck!

I cut Thopter Foundry/Sword Of The Meek combo because I like the other combos better but it's personal preference. I mean if as you said, it's just to prove a point, then I doubt it's worth adding even temporarily. But I've been there...

Otherwise looks great, making individual cuts would be hard (it took me forever to finally get my Sharuum down to size and I had to cut pet Esper cards like Vindicate and Mortify to make it happen, that still hurts).

Okay, so on to our main differences:

Arcbound Crusher. He was in my original build a little over a year ago. I ended up cutting because he just didn't seem good enough; it was more of a "win later" or "win next turn" card. It seemed like alot of work to get a creature that ended up around the same size as a Master of Etherium. Originally I had Inkwell Leviathan in this slot, and I did like him, but ultimately he was just a beater, and while he was awesome in 2-3 player games it got progressively worse the more people that were at the table.

Sphinx Summoner. Always seemed like a just a 5 mana restricted tutor to me. I would rather drop a huge threat like Master of etherium.

Sanctum Gargoyle. I usually want to get as many of my artifacts from my hand to my graveyard as possible. This just seems like undoing most of my hard work. Kederekt Leviathan: What can I say, triangle man is awesome. Drop him, windfall for a ton, and watch your opponents grown. Of course then you become THE default target.

I do play more draw than you and I have to say, I am very surprised that you don't play:Fact or Fiction, Mind's Eye, or Windfall. fact and windfall are GREAT ways to get desirable artifacts into your graveyard, and mind's eye is just some of the best draw in EDH, and endlessly abuse able in Sharuum.

protomatter powder is a one for one trade for 5 mana, so I never really considered it.

Salvaging station: this card is incredible, especially with Voyager staff. Of course any other cogs, like Aether spellbomb, Executioner's capsule, Dispeller's capsule, Tormod's crypt, or Expedition map are also awesome with it. Aside from using Station/ Staff to blink Sharuum (and that is great), its also a self-reinforcing combo with Trinket Mage: blink him with the staff to get all of your 1 cmc artifacts in your hand.

I used to run Reito lantern and usually liked it, but I found that I was using it as graveyard hate as much as anything else. As I said, I want to include Emrakul for graveyard recursion as well.

Rings of Brighthearth are awesome since the deck runs SO many activated abilities.

Counters. Sometimes you just NEED to hinder Uril, or Omnath. Sometimes that Timestretch just needs to be Dissipated. I only run 5 because I don't really have room for more (though I would like to run 1-3 more), but I do like having a few "no"s in the deck.

Glassdust hulk is completely unnecessary if you have disciple of the vault, since you just won the game.

Alright! Thx for the input. I agree with everything you said and I will adjust my deck accordingly. You definitely have more convincing arguments than I have.

I still don't like the counters however. I'm gonna have to try it out. What I will do however is put a hallowed Burial in. It serves a similar purpose to hinder.

There is no such thing as a "fixed" Mishra's Workshop.

evne a fixed version would be broken.

Does that make Ancient Tomb broken? Its good sure, and very powerful in turns 1-5 but broken?

I was referring to something that maybe had the mana restriction of Workshop, was legendary, and produced like 2 mana.

Most people who just declare stuff "Broken" don;t know what that actually means.

Or even something like
Mishra's Shack
Legendary Land
T: add {1} to your mana pool
Metalcraft - T: add {2} to your mana pool use only on artifacts/activated abilities of artifacts.

Or something along those lines.

I could see that being printed, and being pretty good in Sharuum.

Agreed Big Jim, and it wouldn't be broken would it?

So many people, who never played type 1, or played with honest to god "broken" cards declare stuff that is just "Good" to be "Broken".

"Broken" is something that is also contingent entirely on 1. The number of copies you can play. and 2. The format you are playing it in.

Should we start speculating about the new cards or would you rather wait till we know all the cards? There are some that are worth mentioning imho.

I would also like to know if the impact of the new cards will completely change the sharuum deck or if there are only going to be some specific card updates....

Sharuum might not even be the general by the time Scars is released.
