SB: 1 Kresh the Bloodbraided

Here is the most current build of Kresh that I'm playing.

Basically, the general idea is to get Survival or Sneak Attack active, ideally both. It usually wins by running Woodfall Primus out with Sneak Attack, paired with either Genesis or Kiki-Jiki. I like the current all around synergy, but I would like to make room for a little bit more graveyard recursion. Specifically, Oversold Cemetery. I'd also like to fit in a Diabolic Tutor or even Diabolic Intent, or other ways of fetching my broken enchantments.

Suggestions?

Beseech the Queen would work too.

If it were me, I'd cut the Mind Twist for more tutor or the cemetery.
Gamble could probably be a more reliable tutor. I'm sure it doesn't happen often, but it would be a bitch to tutor up one of said enchantments, and then have to wait for eternal witness or reclaim to come up, because you discarded the enchantment at random.
Other than that, it's hard to find a card on this list that I think is weak.

Gamble is situational. If I can turn 1-2 Gamble, when the odds are favorable, I'll get one of the big enchantments, but if I have 4 or less, I usually tutor up Life from the Loam.

I'd really like to fit in Beseech, but given the diverse mana base, I figure Diabolic is going to be more relevant and castable. I'd honestly like to fit them both.

Currently considering:

-1 Reclaim
-1 Gamble
-1 Mind Twist

+1 Diabolic Tutor
+1 Oversold Cemetary
+1 Restock- More mileage than Reclaim

Running Chainer's Edict over it, and even considering cutting it for another survival target like Bone Shredder.

I'm considering cutting Rancor. I originally added it to give Kresh trample, but given that it's rarely ever relevant, I can't help but think it's a dead slot. If I need Kresh to get in there, I still have Skargg and Shizo. Also considering Brawn, but that seems sub-optimal to running another tutor.

Changes:

+1 Solemn Simulacrum
+1 Wickerbough Elder
+1 Mana Vault
+1 Duplicant
+1 Reanimate
+1 Restock
+1 Recoup

-1 Forest
-1 Putrefy
-1 Chainer's Edict
-1 Rancor
-1 Mind Twist
-1 Reclaim
-1 Night's Whisper

Solemn was always in the actual build, not sure how it was dropped from MWS. Wickerbough was tough, but I wanted to have a secondary target should Indrik already be spent and Primus out of reach. Duplicant replaced Putrefy as a secondary kill target. Reanimate to round out the recursion suite and Restock replaced Reclaim.

While mulling over the changes I came across Recoup. With all the sweet sorceries, I decided to work it in as a way to get a lot more mileage out tutors, recursion, and draw.

Right now I'm debating whether something like Necromancy might be better than Reanimate to avoid losing more life.

Can anyone think of a better way to recoup life than Ravenous Baloth?

I think that the Ravenous Baloth is kind of wasted in this deck with only three beasts (RB included), but that might just be me.

I need a way to recoup some of the damage that this deck tends to do to itself. Ravenous can be genesis'd, Survival'd, and sac'd to pump Kresh. If Kokusho was legal, it'd be Koko in a heartbeat.

Still, if you have a better suggestion for a creature to gain life with.

I've always wanted to see someone use Xanthrid Demon in a Kresh list...

The thought of saccing a very large Kresh for an equal amount of damage to all opponents always held some appeal.

This list might not be the one for it though...

Doomgape can't be sacrificed immediately and has to survive until your next turn.

As far as Xathid Demon, I originally wanted to squeeze in room for at least, Fling, so that I could get someone in response to removal. However, the list is so tremendously tight right now, I couldn't cut one of the more competitive cards for a flavor card.

Sadly, for now, I think unless they unban Koko (which I think should get the Braids treatment and only be banned as a general) or they produce another better way to recoup life, Ravenous Baloth is the only solution.

There are a half dozen Kresh lists on this board, including mine (which I think is now my most powerful deck). MWS makes messy decklists - I actually learned something about my deck by arranging the cards by hand in order of casting cost - so I can't be totally sure you don't have these cards. For lifegain AND recursion I highly recommend Sword of Light and Shadow (for multiplayer, I simply don't understand the huge price differential between this and SoFI). For Kresh generally I think Briarhorn is a must-have, because +6/+6 at instant speed can't be beat, and Stonewood Invocation is another awesome way to protect the big man for the turn or two it takes to end things. Similarly, a Berserk is totally worth it if you can pick one up.

The life-gain on SoLS is negligible and the recursive ability is underpowered, depending on what's already been binned. Compare that to SoFI where you're getting extra damage (you get to target your choice of player or crit) and you get to draw a card. SoFI can potentially be a 3 for 1
CA+Shock > Life gain+Raise Dead

That's not ban-worthy, that's the spirit of EDH. Three-card combo involving the combat phase? Awesome.

Obviously I get the basics; my point is that:
1: raise dead is also CA, and depending on the situation, your best critter is often better than a random card off the top
2: pro-black and white are often better than red and blue.
All I know is that SoLaS makes the occasional appearance in the bargain bin, and I'll pick that up every time - at least 3 of my EDH decks have one - but I've never seen SoFI for less than like $12, and wouldn't think of getting one on my budget.
