Hi all,
I'm a Timmy/Johnny with a lot of decks. Kresh is perhaps my favorite, even tho all of the cunning and expensive utility cards are in other decks. This is perhaps closest to BigStan's version, but I really want to just play Kresh and a couple of other critters and swing. In particular, I needed a more aggressive build for smaller games. If they can remove him, big deal - I'll either play him again or kill him with the other critters. At present, the deck is base red.
[EDIT: Now with hyperlink technology!!]
CRITTERS
Tin Street Hooligan
Anurid Scavenger
Burning-Tree Shaman
Scarland Thrinax
Sprouting Thrinax
Viashino Heretic
Vithian Renegade
Blazing Specter
Boartusk Liege
Briarhorn
Hunted Troll
Madrush Cyclops
Woodcreak Liege
Shriekmaw
Silklash Spider
Walker of the Grove
Darigaaz, the Igniter (Wish he was a Hellkite Overlord!!)
Deathbringer Thoctar
Dragon Broodmother
Deadwood Treefolk
Defiler of Souls
Spitebellows
Wort, the Raidmother
Charnelhoard Wurm
Bogardan Hellkite
35 Critters, plus Kresh himself

SPELLS
Artifacts:
Lightning Greaves
Fireshrieker
Mage Slayer
Obsidian Battle-Axe (Kresh is a Warrior)
Sword of Light and Shadow

Enchantments:
Rancor
Tranquil Grove
Aggravated Assault

Instants, Sorceries and Fire Raining from the Sky:
Artifact Mutation
Diabolic Edict
Hero's Demise
Naturalize
Shattering Pulse
Terminate
Browbeat
Darigaaz's Charm
Jund Charm
Reiterate
Victimize
Agonizing Demise
Decimate
Wild Ricochet
Bituminous Blast
Void
Earthquake
Lavalanche
Savage Twister
Vengeful Rebirth (thanks Sheldon!!)
Vicious Shadows (ditto!)
Violent Ultimatum
30 Spells

MANA
7 Mountain
6 Forest
5 Swamp
Gruul Turf
Golgari Rot Farm
Rakdos Carnarium
Badlands
Bayou
Taiga
Blood Crypt
Overgrown Tomb
Stomping Ground
Darigaaz's Caldera
Llanowar Wastes (not a fan of the pain lands, but I have the others somewhere - is it worth including them all?)
Savage Lands
Mountain Valley (Mirage Fetchland)
Bloodstained Mire
Wooded Foothills
Jund Panorama
Verdant Catacombs
Skarrg, the Rage Pits
Treetop Village
Ghitu Encampment
Rishadan Port (Kresh hates Mazes!!)
Sol Ring (Allows for Kresh on turn 3
Golgari Signet (Signets allow for Kresh on turn 4)
Gruul Signet (Sol Ring plus signet plus multiland allows for Kresh on turn 2)
Rakdos Signet
Obelisk of Jund
44 Mana (34 lands, 5 Fetchlands, 5 Artifacts)

Writing it down like this is really helpful. I didn't realize how many instants and sorceries I have. I've got an Anarchist ready to go now, but what should I take out? Also, someone on these boards recommended Flowstone Slide, which is brilliant - the Earthquake will be replaced soon. I think I still have a Berserk, but what to take out? In fact, I'd welcome ALL of your suggestions, but if you could tell me what you'd take out and why as well, I'd be very grateful.

ever heard of soulshriek? seems good. never tested it, so im not sure.

try the combo in my sig, its awesome :]

if you don't like combo, why not add woodfall primus by its self?

bloodfire colossus. period.

chandra nalaar? she kills lots of dudes.

maybe slightly more creature removal.

Yeah, I've seen that Combo :D . My Primus is in another deck, and I'd rather not push this one too much in that direction bcos a) I have no tutoring, b) I have a fairly small number of creatures that trigger Mighty Emergence, c) I didn't think of the combo myself (which pisses me off) and d) I prefer facesmashery to combosity. Don't get me wrong, I think an elegant combo where each piece can serve a purpose in isolation from the others is a thing of beauty, but I wouldn't put the same combo into more than one of my (many) green decks in any event, just for variety's sake.
I looked at the other Kresh posting to make sure I wasn't merely offering up an inferior version of something else, and I got some good ideas there. Maybe Bloodfire Colossus instead of Bogardan Hellkite?
Also, I was surprised to see that there are no terrors here (altho we tend to play a LOT of black). What would you take out for 2-3 terror variants? Anything you'd recommend over a terror (e.g. had a wrecking ball at one point)?
Cheers for the input.

i'm going to bring up soulshriek again. it seems sooooo good with kresh, i mean you'll have plety of dudes in the 'yard so you make kresh super huge.

as far as the removal i would say:
attrition (if you have enough critters to utilize this, it makes kresh fat)
rend flesh
chill to the bone
dark temper
death rattle?
devour in shadow
expunge (better than dark banishing because it cycles)
eyeblights ending (depends on how elf heavy your meta is)
ghastly demise
phthisis is pretty nasty
putrefy
soul reap
wrecking ball

those are the better ones in your colors, take your pick :]

Aye, and if I wasn't facing the threat of a 3rd turn Felidar Sovereign, I'd consider it. I certainly agree it's an underrated EDH card and I should play it in more decks.

However, for a Kresh deck, there is the danger that I might have the only target on the board when the final counter comes off. Also, killing their critter and doing damage based on the size of their creature is almost redundant when playing Kresh, right? Given a choice between equipping Kresh with something funky, terroring their dude and swinging, or having to choose between Pthisising their dude and equipping Kresh, I say "Suit up!"

And Sheldon, I'm glad to see you writing at Star City again and I have LOOOOOVED your "We Play Too Columns". A lot of card choices for Kresh and other decks come from your invaluable game reports.

I believe green's land ramp is better than signet mana ramp. At the very least you should consider darksteel ingot because it doesn't die to disk or ostone. Don't play pains, rely more on basics and green mana fixing. I would drop the bounce lands so you have more basics to search for. I wouldn't play earthquake, kresh can take on any ground foe and has a bit of trouble with the air angels. I don't think bituminous blast is good enough I'd play sudden death or putrefy instead. Ditto agonising demise, phthisis is better.

I believe although your general is different to mine there are a lot of similarities to what is good in our decks.

I think you need to increase your creature count above 25, but it is hard cutting good noncreature spells for creatures that seem worse at the time. Cut darigaaz's charm. Cut browbeat. Cut earthquake, void, bit blast, agonizing demise, the signets and obelisk, terminate, shattering pulse, naturalize, Hero's Demise, Diabolic Edict, Artifact Mutation, Tranquil Grove, and Fireshrieker.

I understand the deck won't actually get a lot of these staple cards but this is what I would like to suggest:

Darksteel ingot, explosive vegetation, kodama's reach, sakura-tribe elder, solemn simulacrum, acidic slime, woodfall primus, withered wretch, mind's eye, eternal witness, genesis, primal command, puppeteer clique, lord of extinction, phyrexian plaguelord, insurrection.

Surprised no one mentioned Terminate for removal. Not as flexible as Putrefy, but it's cheaper.

If you think Kresh likes Obsidian Battle-Axe, try Whispersilk Cloak.

Whispersilk Cloak? Awesome, but so out of flavor that it makes my Vorthos cringe. I'll think about it, but I have unreasonable reservations.
